Redefining your space can be great in theory, but is often much harder in practice. Whether we like it or not, we are creatures of habit - and will usually just resort to what feels comfortable without even realising it. That's why inspiration is so important when it comes to switching up your style, and how simple but effective tips can be so crucial to executing those changes you want to make.
In particular, home can be a tricky place to try new things - after all, it is the place you come back to after every long day - and while it may be scary changing up your decor, it's even scarier getting it wrong. For so long, the most common home styling advice is keeping things neutral. Don't get us wrong, we LOVE a good neutral palette here at TLSE, but when done right - colour can be the perfect way to liven up a space and totally transform it.

[Julia] Look to use colours that brighten your mood. I often reach for yellow accents to warm up a space and spark it with joy. You can choose any colour that makes you feel good.
Art is the perfect way to introduce colour into your room, as it can help inform the palette and guide you with other choices when choosing accessories. Find an unsuspecting colour within a piece, and reference it in the space for a considered look.
"It's no secret that colour is my passion. For me, colour is all about the emotion it evokes and I have learned to tune into the subtleties of it - especially within the home. Oscar Wilde summed it up when he stated, “Mere colour can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways." " Says Julia.
For a side by side on how colour can give a different 'feel' to a space...
Textiles are an easy way to add depth and layering to a space, as well as an easy way to introduce colour. Decadent velvets can add warmth and colour to a space, as can chunky knit throws and mixed bed linen.
Introduce florals and/or greenery to a room to inject some extra life and colour into the space.
If you are feeling adventurous, paint the walls! There is no easier way to inject colour and life into a space than with a fresh coat of paint. Always try a sample pot first to ensure the colour interacts with the light the way you want it to.
It's no secret that the past year made us all grateful for being able to leave our homes, but it also made us realise how important the space we come home to is, and how many of us needed a home-update! As we continue to spend more time than ever before at home, why not take the opportunity to redesign.
