SPACE CLEANSING, WITH ROCK & CO

We’ve all heard the term – “You could cut the air with a knife” – but what is it about a situation that gives us that uneasy sensation?

It’s negative energy.

It can engulf a room or space and will generally emanate from relationships or events, past and present, that have occurred there. Just like that sensation when someone walks in the door, and you instantly know they aren’t feeling themselves – you can really sense the energy that a person brings into a space.

Negative energy can be hard to shake, with a tendency to just hang around. So, it’s a good idea to cleanse your space (and yourself!) regularly. Cleansing can help you shift the negative energy, those unwanted repetitive thoughts or even just brighten up a bad day!

WHEN DO I CLEANSE?

You can cleanse your space daily, weekly, monthly or whenever you feel the need. It’s also beneficial to cleanse when you are going through significant change, like the end of a relationship or the start of a new job. Moving into a new home or office is also a great time to clear all the remaining energy from the old owners or tenants. In general, try to cleanse whenever you want to create a shift in your life or when you feel like the energy around you needs shifting.

HOW DO I CLEANSE?

You can cleanse your space in a number of ways; the most common being the burning of White Sage. Burning Palo Santo is also popular, leaving behind a light pine and minty scent. Beyond space clearing, Palo Santo is also said to help relieve stress, anxiety, inflammation, common cold & flu symptoms, asthma and headaches.

When you cleanse, open the windows and doors to let the fresh air and sunlight in. Light the tip of the White Sage or Palo Santo and allow to smoulder in the areas you’re wishing to cleanse, paying special attention to corners and behind doors.

If you want to cleanse yourself, start at your feet and work upwards. You can also give an ‘intention’ while you cleanse the space or yourself; for example, you might say “This house is clear of any negative energy, and replaced with new, fresh and positive energy”. Another favourite of mine, if the kids have been sick, is “This house is clear of any negative energy, and everyone in this house is happy and healthy”. Make it personal to you and your current situation.
