Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Dr Aodhan, and I create dream smiles at my dental practice, About Smiles. I recently formulated and led the White Glo internal product development and whitening research team, re-vamping their range with 5x brighter whitening technology for the best daily oral care, definitely a career highlight! How did the business come about? 8 years ago, the flagship clinic for About Smiles was born in Chatswood. Since then we have opened a further 4 clinics across Sydney and pride ourselves on delivering the very best in general dental care and cosmetic transformations. As my clinical experience involves cosmetic dentistry, I was then engaged by White to be in their high-performance research team to give industry input on the latest whitening technologies and perform real-life trials on their product developments.

Best career advice you have ever received? Never shoot from the hip & Listen first then speak.

Worst advice you have ever received? Always look at the bottom line $$

What is one thing we should invest in for our business? Your team. They are the most valuable piece of the puzzle. I’ve also learnt the importance of this working with White Glo on their new range, they are a great and passionate team, and I could not have asked for a better team to collaborate with.

What is one thing you wish you had known when starting your business? It’s a marathon not a sprint.

What is your favourite part of your day to day ? Bringing my patient to the mirror to see their new White smile. The reaction is both heart-warming and incredibly exciting- it really is a high. It’s comforting to know my patients are well-equipped for a White smile in the clinic and at home with White Glo.

What was an unexpected joy of creating your business? Seeing the growth of my team members- professionally and clinically has been really rewarding as well as being chosen by a brand like White Glo to make sure that everyone can get access to the best oral care every day!

Leave us with some words of wisdom ?

For me, business has become much less about turnover and numbers. Yes, money is important, of course it is a major factor of why we do business. However, the enjoyment we get from what we do and the impact we have on our team and patients are the less tangible factors we have to value as well.
